U.S. Supreme Court Tariffs Case Debate Progress: Trump's Chance of Defeat Rises to 75%, Decision Expected in December
BlockBeats News, November 6th: The probability of Trump losing the Supreme Court tariff case on Polymarket has risen from yesterday's 61% to 75%. The U.S. Supreme Court held oral arguments on Wednesday local time regarding the legality of Trump's widespread imposition of reciprocal tariffs. Apart from the liberal justices on the Supreme Court, several conservative justices have also expressed doubts about the legality of Trump's tariffs. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts stated that Trump's tariffs amount to taxing the American people, which has always been a core power of Congress. Among the three justices appointed by Trump during his presidency, Gorsuch and Barrett raised probing questions and delved into the arguments of the tariff opponents. Conservative justices hold a majority on the Supreme Court, with a ratio of 6:3. The Supreme Court may announce the judgment in December.
However, when asked about his thoughts on the tariff case oral arguments, Trump's response sounded optimistic. Trump stated in an interview with Fox News: "I heard today that the case is progressing very smoothly, but I only heard about it recently. What I want to say is, if we lose, it will be devastating for our country." U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen also mentioned that after today's tariff hearing, she remains very optimistic.
