Trump's Military Orders on Iran Cannot Automatically Take Effect

On July 13, in response to Trump's statement that he had given orders to the U.S. military to launch a large-scale strike against Iran if he were assassinated, U.S. law does not provide for an automatic military retaliation mechanism upon the president's death. According to the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the Presidential Succession Act, if the president dies, Vice President JD Vance will immediately assume the presidency and command of the armed forces, with military command authority transferred simultaneously. It is up to the successor president to decide whether to execute, modify, or cancel the previous president's related orders. Experts state that while the U.S. has plans for government continuity and nuclear emergency responses, it has never allowed the military to automatically initiate retaliatory actions based on pre-set orders after the president's death.
