The attack was described as a “collective challenge” and was a way for the planners to gain “notoriety on social media,” police said, according to the Associated Press. Police received a tip about the attack plans, and subsequently carried out more than a dozen “search and seizure warrants” throughout Rio de Janeiro and other Brazilian states, Reuters reported.
